PeerTube 8.3 is out!
This latest version continues to improve the user experience, introducing features that make platform moderation much easier.

Subscribing to mute lists
Moderating content can be tedious, but it's a necessary task. Why not share this burden with others who have similar moderation rules?
You can now subscribe to a remote block list, which allows you to automatically mute platforms or accounts. The list is periodically updated to ensure moderation remains up-to-date, and admins are notified when an account or platform is blocked.
As a platform admin, you can also create a public list so other admins can use it, by enabling the option in Settings > General > Federation > Share your instance blocklist publicly. The link to your blocklist will then be displayed on the About > Moderation and Code of Conduct page of the platform, allowing other admins to easily subscribe to it.
Automatic moderation using word lists
Much like Bluesky’s labels, word lists in PeerTube allow videos and comments on the platform to be automatically tagged if they contain specific phrases. These tags can then be used to easily filter videos and comments.
Administrators can now configure automatic rules to block videos based on these labels, as is already the case for comments.
For example, if you are the administrator of a platform dedicated exclusively to cat videos, you can moderate videos containing the word 'doggie'. This means that the video 'Who's the good doggie?' would be flagged for moderation rather than being published straight away.
Monitoring specific terms for moderation
Just like remote block lists, you can now subscribe to remote word lists, both at the platform level (for all videos and comments) and at the creator account level (for comments on their videos). These word lists are periodically checked, and existing videos and comments are automatically re-tagged and potentially blocked in the background.
As an admin, you can subscribe to a new word list by going to Moderation > Watchlists > Subscriptions > Add subscription and pasting the URL.
As a video creator, go to Videos > Comments > Watchlist subscriptions > + Add a new subscription.
Notification of unusual login activity
Having a password stronger than '1234abc' is the bare minimum (and '1234abcd' isn't any better), but you can now make your account more secure by receiving an email notification whenever a login attempt is made from a new location. For example, if you're not yet on board the rocket heading for the International Space Station and someone tries to log in from outer space, that might set alarm bells ringing.

Bulk actions for videos
This latest version enhances the user experience by enabling batch actions on videos, among other things! From the Manage my videos page, you can now add multiple videos to a playlist or edit several videos at once (for example, change the language of multiple videos). You can also perform these actions from the Overview > Videos admin page.
Podcast
A new section dedicated to publishing podcast feeds has been added to the channel management page.
This page displays the URLs to submit to either Apple Podcasts or the Podcast Index, depending on whether you want to publish only the audio or video feed.
Apple Podcasts requires a public email address dedicated to a channel, which can now be entered directly on this page.

The local video search function has been enhanced to search on more information (the first 1,000 characters of the description).
The transcript widget has also been improved, with the search field now always visible. The frustration of scrolling through the transcript is also a thing of the past: automatic scrolling, which is synchronized with the video player, pauses when you manually navigate through the transcript. And a 'Synchronise with video' button allows you to resume it.

Finally, you've probably noticed that the pace of security releases for PeerTube has picked up, mainly due to scans conducted using advanced AI tools and reported by the community.. Once a vulnerability has been detected by AI, it is very difficult to keep it confidential. This is why we have decided to release a new version promptly whenever a vulnerability is detected.
While we expect the number of PeerTube vulnerabilities to slow down in the future, we remain committed to providing the most secure software possible as AI systems become more sophisticated and manage to find increasingly complex exploits.
